What we contribute to DDMMS depends directly on parent involvement!


There are many ways to be involved depending on your time, talents and willingness to help!

Committees


Advocacy:Serves as a liaison regarding legislature that impacts WCPSS and DDMMS. Present at PTA meetings to provide updates, information and answer questions.


​​Audit Committee: Three volunteers to be present a couple times throughout the year to witness and review the budget.


Book Fair:  Funds earned at our Book Fair goes to assist the Media Center with purchases of resources as well as other DDMMS needs. Co-chairs serve as liaison to Scholastic Book Fair reps., coordinate with our Media Specialist to establish schedules, coordinate teacher preview, recruit volunteers to help w/sales, set up and knock down of fairs, handle promotional events (slide shows, principal participation), handle/account daily money and report to treasurer. 


PTA Membership Drive and Promotion:  Volunteers needed to work with Chairperson on the promotion and distribution of membership information.  Including rewards for classrooms for signing the most members and recognition to staff who become members. 


DDMMS Fundraiser: We always love Volunteers to assist the Fundraiser Chairperson with fall fundraiser. This is our main fundraiser, it takes place in October.  this is a "phantom fundraiser" requires no selling or buying of anything!  Volunteers will be needed to assist with prize distribution. 


Gardens and Grounds:  Throughout the year, approximately 2 campus clean up days are planned to enhance the indoor and outdoor spaces of the school.  I.e. front entrance, flower beds and pots, as well as patio areas within the school.  


Honor Roll Celebrations: Help coordinate Honor Roll celebrations for students after 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarter report cards on day of the celebrations for each grade. Current chair is Annie Pilz.

Hospitality:  Prepare and/or help serve food for Teacher Appreciation Lunches and for in-school events like the Career Fair and volunteer recognition.  *** You do not need to help on campus the day of the events, sending in food items requested is an awesome way to volunteer!

Nominating Committee: A minimum of three individuals (including one board member) to identify and recruit officers for the upcoming year.  This committee can have more than three members, but it must be an odd number.​


Reflections: (20+hrs. from August 25-Late November)

This is a National PTA Art program.  Chair would advertise/encourage participation, handle submissions, and plan recognition ceremony.


Spring Fling:  These volunteers will assist with the planning of events and coordinating volunteers. Spring Fling is an event held in (or near) April//May for students, their families and rising 6th graders. Many volunteers are needed prior to Spring Fling as well as the day of the event to make it a success.  We need volunteers to help with basket raffle, games, concessions, talent show, selling tickets, donations, dunk tank and more! 


Spirit Nights:  The coordinators of this committee handle community spirit events throughout the year (3-4) by establishing relationships with local businesses/restaurants to hold an event/purchase meals to receive a % of the profit to go back to DDMMS. Examples are Chipotle, Chick Fil A, City BBQ, Ruckus Pizza. This person will also manage Harris Teeter, Box Tops for Education, RCityRocks fundraisers (which are all online and require very little effort to maintain.  This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be involved mostly at home on their own time.


Spirit Wear:  Coordinate design, procurement, sales and distribution of spirit wear through third-party vendor).  Current chair is Sarah Lewis.


Parent Liaisons for Elementary Feeder Schools:    The Parent Liaison (a parent with children still in elementary school) will represent DDMMS to our feeder elementary schools by sharing important dates and information between the schools/ PTAs . Additionally, they will an ambassador for DDMMS by helping fellow elementary parents with questions concerning DDMMS and transitioning to middle school.
